Mobile Internet 4G will be available in Egypt by the first quarter of the year 2016. Minister Khaled Negm has announced that works are under way to implement mobile Internet connection of the next generation. The old copper wires are being replaced with optical fiber, the main data gate of Egypt is also modernized. Khaled Negm dismissed the rumors about mounting pressure towards state company Telecom Egypt not to enter the market with 4G license.
Mobile Internet in Egypt as for now is offered by three privately held companies. State company works and operates the entire infrastructure of the network in Egypt, citing security reasons. The speed of mobile Internet in Egypt is mediocre, mainly because of high load. The country has nearly 30 millions of mobile Internet subscribers, half of them (~48%) are residing in Cairo.
Some time ago the ministry has announced plans to rapidly develop the Internet in Egypt by doubling effective transfer rates . Part of the implementation of this plan includes building 4G in Egypt.
