Contacts between Egyptian and Israeli leadership are always out of media attention as both sides try to keep them as discreet as possible. Due to unpopularity of the Israel in Egypt and vice versa all contacts between leaders are kept in secret. Channel Ten, an Israeli TV station has reported that one of such meetings between the al-Sisi and Netanyahu was held in May 2018.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a secret summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Egypt in May to discuss a long-term ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The two leaders discussed the easing of an Israeli-Egyptian blockade of Gaza, rehabilitation of its infrastructure and terms for a ceasefire, the Channel Ten report said.
Gaza strip, populated by two millions Palestinians is a target of blockades from the Israeli and Egyptian sides intended to ‘prevent militants from acquiring ammunition and weapon’. The blockade has lead to the severe humanitarian crisis. It is far from resolving. Egypt and the UN organization is trying to mediate the peace or at least some sort of ceasefire between Israeli and Gaza authorities.
