President appointed Coptic woman as Governor of Damietta

Egypt has performing outstanding steps to balance the genders in politics and economics. The current cabinet of ministers include eight women which is absolute record through the history. Women and especially Christian women are still a rarity. It is especially important that one of them, Manal Awad Mikhail, was appointed by Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi as a new provincial governor.

Manal Awad Mikhail, a Coptic women previously serving as a deputy of the Giza province was appointed as governor of Damietta province. First ever female governor in Egypt was appointed last year as the governor of the Beheira.

According to state statistics data Christians constitute 10% of the population. Christians played a significant role in the support of presidential ambitions of Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi.
