As part of the Genaina Theatre's annual Hayy Festival, Mazeek and Hageen bands will perform 1 June.
Hageen is an Alexandrian band playing a new style of Reggae, comprised of singer Abdallah Mohsen, guitarists Moo cka and Mohammed F El-Sammany, bassist Abdallah Ibrahim, drummer Ahmed El-Kholy, and keyboardist Mario Morcos.
The band members are all influenced by different music genres, creating a diversity that inspired the band's name – meaning mixture – and their music.
Mazeek band was formed by musicians from two other successful bands: Ashara Gharby and Uss we Lazq, who were known for performing at Egypt's notable venues, such as Cairo Jazz Club, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and El-Sawy Culture Wheel, as well as festivals including El-Sawy Underground Music Festival, El-Fan Medan festival, Art Beat festival, Afro-Cairo Festival, and the Middle East Alternative Sound and Art Festival in Greece.
By blending the identities and songs of both bands, Mazeek has become a world music band that blends Afro-beats, Oriental and Egyptian/Sudanese/North Africa Folklore.
Friday, 1 June at 9.30pm
El-Genaina Theatre, Azhar Park, Salah Salem Road, Cairo
