Tourism in Egypt news and reports

Tourism is one of the most important branches of Egypt’s economy and the main source of foreign currency to the country. It accounts for 6% of gross domestic products and gives work for at least 15% of population. Egypt was established as a major tourist destination during the “Golden Age” in XIX century. It was reborn after reforms in the 90’s. Now tourist inflow in country is marred by security issues (more imaginative, than real) and some international factors.

Egypt aims to double tourist stream to the year 2020

The Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA) which is in charge to promote tourism in the country is aiming to reach a goal of 20 million guests yearly to the 2020. The main source of the growth for the tourism sector is fellow Arabic countries and the internal tourism. The strategy has proven to be successful during the Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr seasons. Hurghada and Sharm-el-Sheikh hotels were filled 90-100% while the overall part of the international visitors was only 50 to 60%.
